Baking with Nan

This is my first time participating in 100WCGU. Here’s my entry:

“Hand me that,” Nana Mindy commanded.

“Smells awful,” I said, keeping the vial away from my nose. “What is it?”

Nana poured it into the steaming pot and with a bright flash the water turned orange.

“It’s just food coloring,” she said, reaching for a pink piece of paper. She mumbled through the words, crumbled the paper and dropped it into the pot.

“Nan, I just wanted to make pumpkin bread…”

“This is pumpkin bread, the best kind. Be a dear and run to the basement. You’ll find a black snake…”

“We are not losing the Halloween bake-off again.”
